It's time to catch up!
It's time to catch up!
Wow - here we are nearing the end of September and I just realized that it's been two whole months since I last sent out a newsletter! Time sure does fly when you're having fun. And when you're busy. And when it's summer :)
After the last of my spring dance recital work wrapped up, I took a bit of time off to just relax and enjoy the summer. My family spent a relatively chilly and windy week on Long Beach Island, where even though it felt more like April than June, the sun, sand and surf made each day feel amazing.
After that my family all went in a few different directions for a few weeks. My oldest daughter went to some summer dance intensives with Miami City Ballet and Philadelphia Ballet, my son headed to Recruit Training at Ft Indiantown Gap with the US Naval Sea Cadet Corp and the rest of us stayed home and literally dove into summer swim team at our local pool. Side note that has absolutely nothing to do with photography: if anyone is curious about how many pairs of point shoes are needed to get through a 5 week intensive or wondering what the heck a Sea Cadet is, I can help! But seriously, thank goodness for Facebook and FaceTime and all the ways phone cameras allow us to see our loved ones' faces when we are miles apart!
I got back to work in July with a couple of really unique jobs. I worked with Jaqueline D Cutler Interiors to select and create 4 large scale framed prints of my dance portraits for one of their private clients on Long Island. I was also hired by NMS Labs to do some headshots and marketing photography in their Horsham Lab. It was such a fun experience to be able to work in a totally new environment. NMS is a forensic laboratory staffed by expert analysts, criminologists and toxicologists. Yep, they are a real life crime lab. I had to wear a lab coat and sign a NDA to enter the premises (don't worry, I didn't break the NDA by telling you all that).
July also brought me several changes to work with local dancers on new portraits, team photos for the UMLY year round and summer swim teams and a unique opportunity to add a couple of new team members into an existing group photo for the Dwyer Capital Partners at Northwestern Mutual. Ideally we create a new group photo when the team members change, but in this case, with a busy, growing group, we weren't able to get everyone in the same place at the same time. So, Photoshop to the rescue!
In August I got to photograph more dancers (so much fun!), drive over the NJ shore one evening for a high school senior session (like a mini vacation) and work with the entire team at GMS Surgent on updating their headshots. Fun fact: as a total coincidence, my new awesome accountant, Lauren Adamski, is a partner at GMS Surgent! It's always super fun when paths in life overlap that way!
I wrapped up the summer with some more travel. My family took a short trip up to Lake George right before moving our oldest daughter to school up in Boston. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she doesn't live with us at home any more. Where did the time go? Thankfully, right after that I had a lovely and relaxing trip to Florida planned with a friend. I spent that trip doing exactly what you'd expect - reading, eating, talking and shopping my way around the beautiful southern shores. And now that we're heading into fall, I'm excited to be heading outside for all of the upcoming family and senior photo sessions!
I'm so grateful that you are taking the time to read my monthly newsletter. If you'd like to get in touch with me about photo sessions or photography feel free to send me a note or give me a call anytime. I’m always happy to talk!
